"I could never afford to purchase a Schroeder,
and The Woody is every bit as good. Every parameter you could
want is easily adjustable; and it's so damn beautiful,
and so musical too."
- Ted Danowski
Tonearm Grounding Schemes Using Cables with Twisted Pair Conductors and a Shield:
Tonearm grounding can be a confusing subject, but it need not be.
The tonearm internal wiring shield and the tonearm cable shield both need a path to ground. This can be done by grounding the tonearm cable shield to the grounding point for the tonearm internal wiring. See Scheme A in the illustration below. In this case the cable shield finds its path to ground through the ground wire between the tonearm assembly and the phono stage grounding point. Also in this case, the cable shield must not be connected at the RCA connectors. This is the grounding scheme used for the Woody(tm) tonearms.
Alternatively, the each tonearm cable shield can be grounded to the external terminal of its RCA connector. See Scheme B in the illustration below. In this case the cable shields find their path to ground through the RCA connectors. Also in this case, the cable shields must not be connected each other or to the tonearm internal grounding system. A separate wire connects the tonearm internal grounding system to the phono stage grounding point.
