The Woody Replaceable Headshell:

Suitable for Woody SPU Tonearms and other Tonearms which accept replaceable headshells using an SME style pinout. $66 USD each. 6 grams without booster weight, 11 grams with included booster weight.

Wood sounds better! Presently available in French polished Spanish cedar. The basic headshell weighs 6 grams. Included with the 6 gram Spanish cedar headshell is a 5 gram booster weight, which can be used to bring the total headshell mass to 11 grams. Features a non resonant ergonomic finger lift. Also available in other wood species upon request.

The photo below (courtesy of David Torcoletti) shows the Woody Headshell with the included 5 gram booster weight. The high mass headshell screws are not included. Shown in the photo below are the Spanish cedar Woody Headshell with the 5 gram booster plate, a Nagoka MP-20 cartridge, and a Woody SPU Tonearm.

We have chosen low density wood to get a 6 gram headshell weight (comparable to the very low mass mass of the early SME tonearm headshells). We did this because replaceable headshell connectors by themselves are massive (about 6 grams), increasing the effective mass of a tonearm. Keep in mind that mass can be added at the headshell, but can not be removed from a heavy headshell.

When we installed the prototype of this headshell into our Woody SPU Tonearm with a Dynavector XX2 MKII cartridge we were dazzled.
The system: Woody SPU Tonearm, Woody Replaceable Headshell, Dynavector XX2 MKII cartridge, Garrard 301 table, heavy wood plinth, deHavilland 222 tape/phono stage, deHavilland Mercury line stage, McIntosh MC30 power amps, Altec A7 Voice Of The Theatre speakers with crossovers by Pete Riggle using Pete Riggle Selected Loudspeaker Crossover Capacitors and a crossover circuit for Altec A5 speakers by Jean Hiraga, 29 foot long subwoofer horn with two Altec 415 drivers (plays down to 20 Hz).

Below see the image of  a wonderful sounding prototype pine headshell installed on a Woody SPU Tonearm on Garrard 301 table used in the Pete Riggle Audio listening room, AKA The Garden of Earthly Delights. Note the light washers under the screw heads which protect the headshell finish.

The First Testimonial for Our New Headshell:
I really like your new headshell! The lightness makes it quite versatile. At 6 grams the Woody Headshell is light enough to work with my featherweight Grace 540 tonearm, and with the addition of the accessory 5 gram brass ballast plate, it mates well with the 12.5” Woody SPU. I particularly like the bend in the finger lift. I can use the concave part for simply moving the stylus over. Or the pointed tip for very precise placement of the stylus. I'm not kidding about the finger lift. Best one I've ever used.

Thanks, Pete, David Torcoletti
